A Note on Epoch Design Culture

Epoch Design is a family owned company that designs, manufactures and distributes children's and adult bedroom furniture and locking mailboxes. The majority of our business is wholesale to retailers including Costco, Wayfair, Lowe's, Amazon, Ace Hardware and more. As such, our Arlington-based operation is focused primarily on processing, shipping and receiving orders and handling customer service inquiries.

We have a small team here – just under twenty employees- and we have a unique office culture and work environment characteristic of small family-owned businesses. We all work flexible schedules, almost never dress business casual, sometimes don't even wear makeup, and often bring our dogs.

We take lunch breaks around a "meeting" table and in the afternoon, may borrow a coworker's dog for a jaunt around the Marymoor fields to stretch our legs. This works for the Epoch Design family, and we're proud of our office culture.

As we have started to grow the business-to-consumer sales via our websites www.epochbydesign.com and www.mailboss.com, we have had more and more inquiries from customers based in the Pacific Northwest who want to see our products in person. Consequently, last year we carved off a portion of our office space and built a showroom where people could see and purchase furniture, open to the public during normal business hours Monday-Saturday, 9am-5pm.

Since then, people have trickled in to look at our products. Still, it's not by any means a huge part of our operation, and we don't have a full-time dedicated sales staff. We all wear many different hats here, so if you come to our showroom, you may be greeted by the owner or by our social media intern. You may be helped by a "salesperson" wearing a Seahawks jersey or workout attire. You may share the showroom with some of us on our lunch break. And, if you're really lucky, you may be nuzzled by the friendly Epoch Design dogs on duty.

As a company, we pride ourselves on customer service and achieving 100% customer satisfaction. So, it is disheartening to read bad reviews on Yelp from customers who were expecting a furniture retail experience. One recent cringe-worthy review in particular even made us even consider closing the showroom to the public except by appointment only. However, after extensive soul-searching (and a few process improvements in the works), we have decided to embrace our identity.

We are a family, and we welcome you to come visit us in our showroom. No pretenses, no business casual. But you can expect to find cheerful service, friendly dogs, and great deals on craftsman furniture. We hope you will come see us soon!
